The Saudi Ministry of Manpower and Social Welfare has
assured that "the current revised employment system has not been amended
with regard to workers' working hours and weekends."
Al-Arabiya News quoted Al-Eqtisadiya as saying that "it
is up to the employer to fix the weekly workers' holidays and daily working
hours."
However, the duration of work in Ramadan has been pointed
out, which calls for a reduction in working hours.
The main goal of the new employment law is to bring
continuity and improvement in the local labor market, which will create
opportunities for growth in the private sector and provide a better environment
for workers, which will help achieve the country's Vision 2030 goals. ۔
Regarding the 'self-assessment' method of business entities,
the Ministry of Manpower says that there are many large and medium enterprises
in the country where the self-assessment method is being followed with good
results.
The ministry clarified that the ministry's goal is to ensure
the implementation of labor laws in the private sector. The ministry said
action would be taken against those institutions which did not follow the rules
set by the 'self-assessment'.
The ministry further said that in order to create a
conducive working environment in the country, it is necessary to implement the
prescribed rules for which the ministry liaises with the concerned agencies
before conducting an investigation.
It should be noted that the Ministry of Manpower and Social
Welfare has made it mandatory for large and medium scale institutions in the
country to have a 'self-assessment' system which has to be registered in the
portal of the ministry through which the performance of the institutions is
checked.
The self-assessment system allows organizations to correct
their mistakes and omissions, which also improves the quality of work and
facilitates compliance with the rules.
Institutions benefit from this system so that they can
rectify their affairs in a timely manner so that they do not face any
difficulty on the arrival of the ministry's investigation team.
