The Royal Commission of Riyadh City (RCRC) has set September 1 as the official day for the actual operation of the King Abdulaziz Public Bus Transport Network in the capital.

The Saudi Public Transport Company (SAPTCO) announced on Wednesday that it had received a notification from Public Transport Company (PTC).

SAPTCO said it was currently difficult to recover the costs associated with the project launch as the company was meeting with other relevant authorities to study the required applications after which such costs would be determined and announced in due course.

It is noteworthy that SAPTCO had in 2014 signed a contract with France-based RATP Dev Company to establish PTC with a significant amount of SR10 million to run its Riyadh Buses project. SAPTCO owns 80 percent of PTC while the French company owns the remaining 20 percent of the shares.

King Abdulaziz Public Transport is one of the largest transport projects in the region, and includes a bus and Riyadh Metro transport project, which will cater for more densely populated areas, public and government institutions, educational, commercial and medical centers in the city.
